Day 38

I like this passage. I have read and heard the Ten Commandments hundreds if not thousands of times, but I have never read further. Not only does God give the commandments to live by, He also lays out some common sense rules about when to repay someone for a wrong.

I think most of these specific examples specified in these chapters can be summed up in a few sentences. If you are careless and, because of that carelessness, someone loses something of value, you are responsible to pay them back. However, if you are taking every precaution possible and still something of value is lost, it is not required to pay them back.

This is a simple concept, but sometimes it is difficult. Quite often, I want revenge for something I lost, even when I know it wasn't their fault. I think revenge can sometimes be misconstrued as closure, but it rarely ever results in it.

I think God is saying to use common sense and good judgment when seeking restitution. As simple as that is, it is good to hear.
