Day 116

It is sometimes scary how the Lord reveals Himself to us and how He shows us our sinful nature.

David did an evil thing by taking Bathsheba to be his wife when she was still married. Then ordering her husband to be put in the front lines to ensure he would be killed in battle.

The scary part is the way Nathan revealed this to David. Nathan told a similar story about a rich man with lots of lambs while another had just one that he cherished. When a visitor came, rather than sacrificing one of his own lambs, the rich man took the one lamb from the other man. After hearing this, "David's anger was greatly kindled against the man and he said to Nathan, 'As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die...'" (2 Samuel 12 verse 5)

In verse 7, Nathan responds, "You are the man!"

Whoa. I think it is here that David stops and sees what he has done, not only with Bathsheba, but also by condemning himself to death for what he has done!

The Lord says to David through Nathan that He has blessed David. And if David needed more, the Lord would have given it to him! But instead, David goes and takes another man's wife when he has several of his own!

I believe this is saying quite a few things. But the one that may not be so obvious is God provides for me. Do not take other people's blessings as my own. The Lord provides all my needs.
