Chapter 5 verses 1 through 7 is an allegory of God. It is a story of a man who clears land for a vineyard. He tills it, removes the stones, puts a watchtower in the middle, plants and watches it grow. He does everything he can to ensure good grapes grow.
When the grapes mature, he finds that they are wild grapes instead. The man is frustrated since all of his hard work is for nothing! The only thing to do is destroy the vineyard.
Isaiah was equating this story to God and the vineyard to Israel. God put so much into Israel so it would bear beautiful fruit, but once it matured, the fruit was not what he expected and the only thing He could do was destroy it.
I am thankful for God's mercy. I feel quite often I do not bear the beautiful fruit that God had intended me to bear, but still He loves me and cares for me as His child. Thank you Lord!
