In Revelation chapter 3, John hears the Lord give a message for the church in Philadelphia (not Pennsylvania). Chapter 3 verse 8 says, "I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name." Also, chapter 3 verse 10 says, "Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth."
I found the concept of patient endurance interesting. I believe patient endurance is continued faith in Christ when He seems distant. It is believing even when believing is not the logical thing at the time. I also like the fact that it seems as though to be a test. Verse 10 said because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from trials. If we pass the test, we will be spared many things!
However, I believe we are called quite often to patiently endure, and most of the time, we fail. We do not pass the test the Lord has laid out for us. The fact is, the Lord is always with us. He may give the illusion that He is far in order to test our faith, but He is always there. To patiently endure means to realize the truth; that even when the Lord seems far away, He is standing right next to you!
