Moses and Aaron go into the tent of meeting at the end of chapter 9. "...When they came out, they blessed the people, and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. And fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar..." (verses 23 and 24) That is pretty sweet! Fire came from before the Lord and consumed the offerings, but that is not all.
Chapter 10 states, "Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron,...offered unauthorized fire before the Lord." They did not follow the instructions God gave them for the offerings. The same fire that came out from before the Lord and consumed the offerings also "...consumed them, and they died before the Lord." (verse 2) God really means what He says. He commanded them to offer sacrifices to the Lord, and if done improperly, will result in death.
I believe Christ was fully human without sin and was the only one who could sacrifice Himself and atone us from our sins. If not, it would mean death to us all.
Thanks be to the Lord who sacrificed Himself to save us from our sins!
