Day 268

What a trying time for Joseph! He found out that his new wife was expecting however, he had not known her yet! His only assumption was that it was by another man! Conception by the Holy Spirit was not heard of in his day.

So Joseph had a plan. He knew that the baby was not his. Matthew 1 verse 19 says, "And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly."

But then God steps in. Matthew 1 verse 20 says, "But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, 'Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.'"

I can't imagine what Joseph was thinking after that! It had to be difficult for him. I am sure he doubted on occasion as is natural for all of mankind. But Joseph stuck with Mary and was the earthly father to our Lord and Savior.

Sometimes the Lord calls us to things that are not in our comfort zone. They may be difficult, but in the end, multiple blessings result. I have to remember not to say no to the tough things God requires.
