Day 94

Jephthah is a man of his word. He made an oath to God that if he delivered his enemies into his hands, he would sacrifice the first thing that came out of his house when he returned. This ended up being his one and only daughter.

How horrible is that! But, true to his word, Jephthah ended up giving her to the Lord. However, it was interesting to read that he gave his daughter a while to mourn and be by herself. It was as if she understood that an oath was made and it had to be honored; even if it meant giving up her life.

I hope I am never in a situation like that, but I also hope that I am able to always keep my word like Jephthah did. One who keeps his promises is one to be trusted.
