Day 117

I believe everyone needs a friend like Joab. Joab was the commander of David's army and also David's sense of reason at times.

Amnon, Absalom's brother, violated Absalom's sister which, from what I understand, caused mental issues (chapter 13 verse 20 says, "Tamar lived, a desolate woman..."). This angered Absalom so much that he had Amnon killed.

After this, Absalom fled to another city. David was content to let him leave, however, Joab saw the bigger picture. He saw that Absalom did this for his sister and also saw that it was not good to have the family split.

Joab tricked David into deciding for himself that Absalom should come back. I know I need friends like this who, when they see I am not being logical, they reveal it to me, even if it means tricking me.

I am blessed with not only a great wife, but also great friends who quite often are my source of logic. I thank God for them every day.
