Day 23

Job has miserable comforters. He even tells them this in chapter 15 verse 2. I think Job's friends provide a great example of what not to do when trying to comfort a friend.

Job is suffering beyond comprehension. He lost his family, his health and all he had and all his friends do is accuse him of being unrighteous! Job knows he has done nothing wrong in the eyes of the Lord and lets his friends know this. Instead of being supportive and believing Job, they turn the other way calling him a liar and impure.

Throughout this book, Job provides advice for them as they try to comfort him. Going back to chapter 13 verse 5 of yesterday, Job says, "Oh that you would keep silent, it would be your wisdom." And also today in chapter 16 verse 3, "...what provokes you that you answer?"

Job is saying the best way to comfort him and be a friend to him is to just be quiet, listen and be there for him. A wise friend will be there, be quiet and listen.
