Elijah is a brave man. A faithful man. He went back to Ahab and challenged all of his priests of Baal; 450 men. 2 altars were set up; one for Baal and one for the Lord. The challenge was to have the god the altar was built for provide the fire. This test was done in front of all Israel.
The prophets of Baal went first and cried out from morning until evening. They screamed loudly and cut themselves. Nothing happened.
Then Elijah had the people bring over 7 liters of water and pour it on the altar of the Lord, soaking the wood and the offering. He then said one prayer. 1 Kings 18 verses 36 to 28 says, "Elijah the prophet came near and said, 'O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word. Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that You have turned their hearts back.' Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench."
It took one short prayer to the Lord for everything, even the stones, to be consumed by the fire provided by the Lord. What a mighty God I serve!
