Wow. Even in war, the Lord delivers!
Jeremiah is in Judah when the Babylonians come to capture the city. The king of Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar) sends most of the people into exile, however, he has something special for Jeremiah.
Jeremiah 39 verses 12 is the king giving orders on what to do with Jeremiah. It says, "'Take him, look after him well, and do him no harm, but deal with him as he tells you.'"
Jeremiah 39 verse 18 says, "'For I will surely save you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but you shall have your life as a prize of war, because you have put your trust in Me, declares the Lord.'"
King Nebuchadnezzar is going to take over Judah, but the Lord protects Jeremiah from them! I also like the way Jeremiah puts this last verse. You shall have your life as a prize for war, because you have put your trust in Me, declares the Lord.
Because Jeremiah put his trust in the Lord, you will have your life.
I also wanted to note the order in which this occurs. It says, "Because you have put your trust in Me." This imples that one must trust the Lord first, in order for receive your prize, or reward.
I quite often get it backwards and say, "Lord, if You bless me with..., I will trust in You always." The problem is, the Lord blesses us when we trust Him first! I have to keep this in mind, especially when praying.
