What a just and loving God we serve!
Israel was a sinful nation that needed to be punished. It had to pay for the sins it had committed. However, Lamentations 3, verses 32 and 33 say, "Though He cause grief, He will have compassion according to the abundance of His steadfast love; for He does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men."
The Lord causes grief. He allows for the bad things to happen as punishment, or as part of His plan. However, He will have compassion, because of His love for us! He does not willingly afflict us. He is not a God that delights in the suffering of His children. But instead, He allows bad things to happen in order to shape us, or punish us as needed.
He is just in that He punishes us when we need it. However, He is also loving in that He does not willingly afflict us, but instead, He has compassion and love for us.
He has the perfect balance of justice and love beyond measure!
