After hearing from 10 of the spies that Israel cannot overtake the city, Israel looses faith and gives up! After seeing God in the cloud by day and fire by night, and also seeing it descend on the tent of meeting to talk with Moses.
God reveals to Moses that because of their doubts, their generation will not see the promised land. It will go to their children instead! I cannot imagine wandering for so long in the desert only to be rejected when we get to the gates!
That seemed to have frustrated the Israelites, so they decided to go against God (which never works), and fight for the city. And of course, they end up loosing!
I wonder how many times I miss opportunities for a "promised land" but it does not happen because of my lack of faith. I am really seeing through these readings what true faith can do! I will keep my eyes open to see specifically how to deepen my faith in the Lord through these readings.
