Day 66

Today I am introduced to Phinehas. The Lord was angry with the Israelites for intermixing with the local people and taking their gods for themselves and therefore struck Israel with a plague. After seeing one of the Israelite men take a Midianite woman, he burned with the wrath of God and killed them both.

The wrath of Phinehas stopped the plague upon Israel. For this, Phinehas and his decendants were blessed with a covenant of perpetual priesthood.

I find it interesting that here in the Old Testament, he who kills is rewarded. Is it because he killed with the jealousy of the Lord? Can any murder be justified?

I wonder how often I miss standing up for the Lord and miss His rewards for it. I struggle with that. I do not always have the nerve to stand up to others for the Lord when it counts. I am forever thankful that He always stands up for me and I will continue to try and not miss opportunities to stand up for Him.
